Staff profile #34

Today, we're excited to introduce you to Lorik Zhubi, our newest Programme Manager!

Lorik comes from Kosovo’s northern town of Mitrovica, however he spent most of his life in the United States where he completed his bachelor studies in biology and history. After his studies, Lorik returned to Kosovo to work on child and maternal health in civil society. Thereafter, he completed his master studies in global health policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), during which he observed the theories he was learning in the classroom play out in real time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once he completed his studies, Lorik worked as a freelance policy advisor for both the public and private sectorin Kosovo before returning to the UK to work in policy communications for one of Europe’s leading dementia research charities.

Outside of work, Lorik is known amongst friends and family as a foodie, always ready to try a new restaurant or a new recipe at home. He also has a love for travel, with Paris being his most recent, and so far, favorite trip!

When we asked him what he likes about working at PLAY, he answered: “I’m really excited about the breadth of the projects we work on, and the innovation the organization brings through which Kosovo’s children and youth will benefit from. Big changes happen with small, consistent, and sustainable steps, and I believe that through the PLAY’s mission, we’ll help to bring about resilient actors of change for Kosovo’s future.”

Of course we asked him what he likes about Kosovo, he answered: ”I like the hustle and bustle of Kosovo, there is always something going on and always someone to meet (over coffee of course). I think this lively atmosphere is due to Kosovo’s relatively young population, which feed off an energy to make the most of each day”.

And of course he can't run from our ‘’fun fact about you" question, which without hesitation he said: ”I’m a self-proclaimed cook! As a foodie, I love to try out new dishes in the kitchen for my friends and family”.

Hey Lorik, you’re not alone - we all LOVE to eat delicious food!
